Real Madrid registered a record-breaking 15th UEFA Champions League title with a dominant 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening.
The game had started out a bit cautiously, with the first effort coming through Vinicius Junior in the 15th minute, a left-footed shot skied high over the bar.
After the attempt by Vinicius, Borussia Dortmund started getting their chances. Notably, in the 21st minute, Adeyemi was one on one with Courtois only for the Madrid keeper to palm away the shot. Dortmund kept threatening on the counter-attack with Courtois denying Adeyemi once more in the 28th minute.
Real Madrid looked much better in terms of offense and defense in the second half. The tactical change by Ancelotti meant that his team created more opportunities. A free kick from Toni Kroos was spectacularly saved by Kobel in the 49th minute, and from the resulting corner, Carvajal's header whizzed just off-target.
The breakthrough finally came in the 74th minute from another Kroos delivery, and Carvajal rose the highest to nod the ball into the net. Dortmund had their share of opportunities, and the effort by Bellingham was found blocked by Schlotterbeck in the 76th minute, but the win was sealed for Madrid when Vinicius Junior capitalized on a defensive error to slot home.
Afterwards, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti said that the match was not as easy and underlined that he enjoyed winning. Dortmund coach Edin Terzic underlined that his side played very well but were unable to use key moments.
"It was much more difficult than we thought it would be,\" Ancelotti said. "But those are all trifling details now. We won. The dream continues," he added.
Terzic reflected, "We did so many things right, but they were ice-cold at the right moment, which we lacked today."
