In a thrilling and unexpected turn of events, Brighton & Hove Albion secured a 4-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in a highly entertaining match at Falmer Stadium. The win propelled Brighton to eighth place in the Premier League, surpassing Newcastle United and leaving Spurs six points behind.
Brighton had an early chance to take the lead, with Welbeck forcing two impressive saves from Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario within a minute. Joao Pedro then found space and scored a powerful shot to put Brighton ahead 1-0.
Brighton extended their lead to 2-0 on the 23rd minute, with Joao Pedro converting a penalty awarded after Dejan Kulusevski fouled Welbeck in the box. Despite Brighton's dominance, Spurs had moments of their own, with Richarlison hitting the post.
The second half saw an early disallowed goal for Spurs due to offside, and Richarlison had a near miss with a low shot. However, Estupinan, who came on as a substitute, marked his return with a stunning 30-yard shot into the top corner, making it 3-0 for Brighton.
Joao Pedro added insult to injury for Spurs by converting another penalty after a clumsy challenge by Giovani Lo Celso on Evan Ferguson, bringing the score to 4-0 in Brighton's favor.
Spurs staged a late comeback attempt with two goals in five minutes, courtesy of Veliz and Davies, making it 4-2. Despite nine minutes of stoppage time and late pressure from Spurs, Brighton held on to secure a well-deserved victory.
