It seems like it will be a summer of change at Paris Saint-Germain, with the champions in-waiting set to see megastar Lionel Messi head for the exit after the Argentinian failed to agree a new deal at the Parc des Princes. Neymar could be another leaving the club in due course, and the Premier League could be his next destination.
It’s been somewhat of a disappointment for Brazilian winger Neymar. While the thirty-one-year-old has posted impressive numbers in terms of goals and assists for his club, he’s been hampered by injury and had to undergo ankle surgery. As far as PSG are concerned, they hold all the cards, with Neymar contracted until 2025, with the club having the option to extend for a further year past that, but they’re willing to sell now for the right price.
Neymar has played in Brazil, Spain and France and has been impressive in all three countries, so a move to the Premier League could appeal as a new challenge. Manchester United and Newcastle United are two clubs linked with an interest in the former Barcelona man, and Neymar’s arrival at either of those two clubs will be reflected in the Premier League betting, as the odds of success would shorten due to Neymar still being one of the best players on the planet.
While all the top clubs will probably like the idea of signing Neymar, even though he’s on the wrong side of thirty, only several can afford to make the deal happen. And Manchester United and Newcastle are two teams capable of pulling it off. If both outfits can financially afford to bring Neymar in, it could potentially come down to what they can offer the Brazil international. Manchester United are globally known and will play in next season’s Champions League, while Newcastle have also qualified for Europe’s top club competition and are an up-and-coming project.
Neymar would also find Brazil teammates at both clubs too, with Casemiro, Fred and Antony playing for Manchester United and Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton at Newcastle. So both outfits have a lot to offer, and there are plenty of reasons why Neymar would find both attractive propositions. But do either Manchester United or Newcastle need Neymar right now? Or is it simply a case of you can’t really turn the chance down to sign a player of that calibre when the opportunity to do so arises?
Marcus Rashford is Manchester United’s first-choice left-sided player, and he’s weighed in with thirty goals this season so far. They also have Alejandro Garnacho coming through, and they won’t want to stifle his progress. Newcastle could be in the market for a winger, but they’ve just shelled out big money to sign Everton’s Anthony Gordon, and there’s a belief the twenty-two-year-old can go on to do great things. But then again, this is Neymar we’re talking about, and he’d take both teams to the next level.
