FC Barcelona's head coach, Xavi Hernandez, reiterated his firm stance on his decision to step down from his role at the club at the end of the season. Back in January, after a disappointing 5-3 loss to Villarreal, Xavi made it clear that he would be departing from his position come June, as reported by Xinhua.
Interestingly, this announcement seemed to ignite a positive shift within the team. Since then, Barcelona has showcased remarkable improvement, securing six victories out of their eight La Liga matches and drawing the remaining two. Moreover, they have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, displaying some of their finest performances of the season.
Despite Barca president Joan Laporta expressing his desire for Xavi to reconsider his decision in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo last week, the coach remains resolute in his stance. During a press conference preceding Saturday's match against Las Palmas, Xavi affirmed that his decision remains unchanged.
Acknowledging Laporta's sentiments, Xavi expressed gratitude for the president's words and emphasized a strong rapport with Laporta and Sporting Director Deco, whom he considers friends. However, he emphasized that his priority lies in what is best for the club, reaffirming his decision to step down at the end of the season.
