Chelsea FC's apparently infinite spending spree is not quite over just yet, with the Blues nearing a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto to the tune of €60 million. In this transfer, the highly-pursued Portuguese winger travels to Stamford Bridge despite interest from lots of big-name clubs.
Neto, 24, is inching ever nearer to his move to Chelsea, who will conduct medical tests with the winger before he pens a contract, according to The Athletic.
He has gained interest from many in the Premier League, including Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Manchester City. The problem is that he has a few dark spots in his record regarding injuries. Neto sustained a serious knee injury, and he spent almost 300 days out of action. Not long ago, in 2022, he suffered an ankle problem that kept him out for 127 days. The 2023/24 season looked to be no different as he suffered two various knee injuries, which combined to keep him out for four months—the disruption looked like a problem that had not gone away for a £72 million player.
This season, the Chelsea team has already signed players like Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa, Marc Guiu from FC Barcelona, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, Renato Veiga from Basel, Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United, and Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors. Moreover, there is an agreement to purchase the striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.
The Wanderers are set to turn their interest to Ajax winger Carlos Forbes as a replacement for the departing Neto.
Chelsea will kick-start their 2024/2025 Premier League campaign by playing hosts to the defending champions, Manchester City.
