England fret on rotation as Kohli-Anderson rivalry may get a break
The quick turnaround in the last three Test matches to be played within three weeks is forcing both England and India to rotate bowlers. While India has already made it clear, the English team could also go that way. England head coach Chris Silverwood points to the media the workload on his two new-ball bowlers, Anderson and Ollie Robinson.
He is not sure whether to play or leave: Hussain on Kohli's struggles
Kohli has scored 124 runs in just five innings at an average of 24.80. His highest score of the ongoing Test series was 55 in the second innings of the Headingley Test, which India lost by an innings and 76 runs. It has been 51 innings without a three-figure score for Kohli in international cricket since November 2019.
Inzamam wants Kohli, Pujara, Rahane to get big hundreds
Kohli and Pujara have not scored a century for over two years while Rahane's last ton came in December last year. Pujara scored 91 in the second innings in the third Test at Headingley while Kohli scored 55. Inzamam's remarks came after India were bowled out for 278 on Day 4 of the third Test against England at Headingley, losing the match by an innings and 76 runs.
We need to be patient, build partnerships: Virat Kohli
"The way they bowled in the morning with new ball, the areas they bowled at, the lengths they bowled, you have to be precise [against that] with everything in your decision making. It is not like you will make an error and your edge is so far that the delivery won't catch. We have to accept this, they won't make it easy for us here," added Kohli.
Won't bring in extra batsman, it's not how we play: Kohli
India lost by an innings and 76 runs. The heavy defeat was caused mainly by poor show with the bat in the first innings as India were bowled out for 78. Former India captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar and batsman Sanjay Manjrekar had opined that India could be forced to play an extra batsman in the fourth Test beginning September 2.
India succumbed to scoreboard pressure: Kohli
"Basically, I will put it (collapse) down to scoreboard pressure. We knew we are up against a massive (354-run) lead after getting bowled out for 78. The pressure from English bowlers was too much, they bowled at areas which troubled us," said Kohli in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Kohli's decision to start bowling with Ishant backfires
For the second consecutive day, Kohli opened the bowling with Ishant Sharma. The lanky pace bowler, who impressed in the first Test with the way he made back-to-back breakthroughs in both the innings, has the ability to strike with deliveries that come sharply into the right-handed batsmen and away from the left-handed batsmen. Notwithstanding his genius with the old ball, to start the second day on Thursday with him instead of Jasprit Bumrah defied logic.
Virat and middle-order need to score, says Madan Lal
Following the highs of Lord's Test win, India's star-studded batting order came a cropper on Wednesday as they got bundled out for a paltry 78 on the opening day of the match in Leeds. Barring Rohit Sharma (19) and Ajinkya Rahane (18), none of the batsmen could reach the double-digit mark while skipper Virat Kohli could only score seven runs. England then gained advantage by reach 120 runs.
Kohli is playing at a lot of deliveries he could leave: Hussain
Kohli has scored just 42 runs in four innings of the ongoing Test series, averaging only 17.25. On Wednesday, he was dismissed for seven by nicking behind t' 'keeper Jos Buttler off James Anderson. It has been 50 innings without a three-figure score for Kohli in international cricket since November 2019. "England had a ball that swung from the off -- in contrast, there was no swing for India.
Seek Tendulkar's help to overcome poor run: Sunil Gavaskar to Virat Kohli
"He should give a quick call to SRT (Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar) and ask what should I do?," said Gavaskar on air on Wednesday. "[He should] Do what Sachin Tendulkar did at Sydney. Say to himself that I am not going to play the cover drive," added Gavaskar.
