India-UK trade deal on the anvil
Vietnam and Singapore have just signed a free trade agreement with the UK, which has been looking at bilateral trade and economy agreements with several countries to prepare for the Brexit era. Vietnam is emerging as a strong competitor to many other economies in trade related issues.
India-UK flight services to resume from Jan 8: Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri
Last month, these services were suspended to stop the spread of a mutant Covid-19 starin which was recently discovered in the UK. In a tweet, the minister said: "It has been decided that flights between India & UK will resume from 8 Jan 2021."
International flights to remain suspended till January 31, 2021
"This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)," an official statement said on Wednesday. "However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case to case basis," it added.
No flight from United Kingdom to land in India till 7 January
Initial decision on suspension was till December 31. However, in the wake of samples increasing for the variant strain, a new decision was taken. "Decision has been taken to extend the temporary suspension of flights to & from the UK till 7 January 2021," Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Officials concerned in district and civic bodies shall check them for symptoms and conduct RT-PCR Covid tests on them, he added. The samples of those detected positive or infected, shall be sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for genetic testing and ascertain if it matches the new Covid-19 virus strain detected in the UK.

5 passengers from UK test Covid positive at Delhi airport
A total of 250 passengers who arrived last night and have undergone the mandatory RT-PCR test at the airport. While 5 tested positive, rest have tested negative for Covid-19. Sources told IANS that as many as 470 passengers from the UK have landed IGI till now in two flights.
Travellers from UK to India to be tested, temporary ban on flights till Dec 31
India on Monday announced a temporary ban on flights coming from the UK till 11.59 p.m. on December 31. The suspension commences from 11.59 p.m. on December 22. Earlier on Monday, the Health Ministry called an emergency meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group and the Vaccine Task Force to discuss the emergence of the mutated variant of coronavirus in the UK.
