Paralympic shooting: Rubina Francis in final of women's 10m air pistol

Rubina shot 91, 96, 95, 92, 93, 93 in the six rounds of 10 shots and tied for the sixth spot with South Korea's Kim Youn-mi at 560 points. But the Korean shooter took the sixth spot with 14 shots in bullseye while Rubina had only 12. Iran's Sareh Javanmardi topped the qualifying round with a score of 572, a new Paralympic Games record for qualifying round. Hungary's Krisztina David was placed second with a score of 570 with Turkish duo Ayesegul Pehlivanlar (564) and Ayset Ozan (563) following third and fourth. Ukraine's Iryna Liakhu was fifth with a score of 561.
Paralympics: Antil wins gold with World Record, Sandeep ends fourth

Antil hurled the spear to 68.55 metres, improving on his old mark of 62.88 set in November 2019. Australia's Michael Burian won the silver medal with 66.29 metres while Sri Lanka's Dulan Kodithuwakku took the bronze medal with 65.61 metres. Both Antil and Burian went past the old world record while the Sri Lankan came up with his personal best.

"Bronze medal Mr Vinod Kumar in F52 category sitting discus has been cancelled. This has been confirmed by Chef de Mission Mr. Gursharan Singh. Though before the events the players were classified by the IPC officials themselves, but during the competition it was found faulty. A detailed report is awaited," the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) informed.
Avani says feeing on top of the world; coach Shekhar says more medals to come

The 19-year-old Avani became the first Indian woman to win gold in the Paralympic Games when she shot a world record score of 249.6 in the finals on Monday. This is also India's first gold medal in shooting in the Paralympic Games. "I'm so happy I could be the one to contribute it. Hopefully, there's a lot of medals more to come," said the para shooter, who is paralysed below the waist.

Jhajharia, who won gold medals in 2004 Athens and 2016 Rio with world record throws, threw 64.35, much farther than his world record of 63.97 but Sri Lanka's Dinesh Priyan Mudiyanselage Herath produced a gigantic throw of 67.79 to set a new world record and win the gold medal. Sundar Singh Gurjar, a two-time World Championship gold medallist, took bronze with a best throw of 64.01 metres on Monday.
Paralympics: Rajasthan shooter Avani gets laurels for winning gold in Tokyo

Avani became the first Indian female athlete to win a gold medal in either the Olympics or the Paralympics when the 19-year-old shot a world record score of 249.6 in the finals of the air rifle event in Tokyo. Before her, shot-putter Deepa Malik (2016 Rio) and para-table tennis player Bhavina Patel (2020 Tokyo) were the most decorated Indian female sportspersons at the Paralympics.
Paralympics: Two poor shots halt Unhalkar's medal charge; finishes fourth

Unhalkar had qualified seventh for the final but had jumped to the top spot after shooting 102.1 in the first 10 shots in the final. He produced six consecutive scores of 10 or more as he led the standings with the second elimination round well underway. But disaster struck in the fourth series of two shots as he could manage only 9.9 and 9.5 and slumped out of medal contention.

The 42-year-old Vinod, who took up para-athletics in his 30s, cleared 19.91 in the seated/standing discus throw event on his fifth effort. He finished third behind Poland's gold medallist Piotr Kosewicz (20.02m) and Croatia's Velimir Sandor (19.98). At one stage, the 42-year-old from Rohtak in Haryana was placed second before Sandor cleared 19.98 in his fifth throw to take the silver medal.
Paralympics: Nishad wins silver in high jump, second medal for India on Sunday

Nishad finished second behind Roderick Townsend of the United States, who set a world record by clearing 2 metres and 15 centimetres. The 21-year-old Nishad who hails from Una in Himachal Pradesh started with 1.89 metres which he cleared easily. He cleared 1.94 in his second effort and 1.98 in his third jump. His best effort of 2.06 came in his fifth jump.
