Paralympics: Jakhar finishes fifth in Mixed 25m pistol shooting

Jakhar came up with a superb performance in the rapid section of the qualifying stage to finish with a score of 576. In the final, he survived the first elimination round as Ukraine's Iryna Liakhu was eliminated in a shootout with China's Yang Chao. The Chinese shooter was the next to get out, he finished with a score of 5.

Two world records were set by Chinese athletes in track and field as Zhu Dening winning the T38 men's long jump with 7.31 metres on his debut in the Games, and Shi Yiting winning T36 class women's 100m in 13.61 seconds, breaking her own world record of 13.68 seconds. "The gold is what I came here for. My family are very proud and were in tears when we spoke on the phone," Shi was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Rain plays spoilsport as Mariyappan wins silver, Sharad bronze

Mariyappan, who won the gold medal in the same category in the Rio Paralympics in 2016 with a jump of 1.89, could manage only 1.86 as American Sam Grewe outjumped him by clearing 1.88 metres. Mariyappan tried to clear 1.88 but failed in three attempts. Sharad managed 1.83 metres and bagged the bronze medal. Varun Bhati finished sixth with a valid jump of 1.77m.
'Not done yet', Jhajharia wants to hit 'boundary' at 2024 Paris

Jhajharia's latest medal came with an attempt of 64.35m in the men's javelin throw (F46 final event). Talking to IANS from Tokyo, Jhajharia said, "As I am 40-year-old now, I believe I have challenged science. Winning silver is also important. My father always wanted me to make a hat-trick of medals and now I did it. I am sure he would be so proud of me. I dedicate this medal to my late father. Whatever I am today is because of his motivation and support".

Paralympic shooting: Narwal tops qualifying, Singhraj too reaches final

Narwal tied for the top spot with Chinese Lou Xiaolong, both with a score of 575 points. He, however, topped the ranking having shot 21 pellets into the inner 10 circles as compared to 15 by Lou. Singhraj tallied 569 points to finish sixth in the 60-shot qualifying cycle. Narwal came up with scores of 96, 95, 92,98, 97, and 97 in the six rounds of 10 shots each in the low-scoring qualifying round.
