Injured Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of T20 World Cup

He is the second senior India player to miss out on the T20 World Cup with an injury after Ravindra Jadeja, who is recovering from knee surgery. The 28-year-old Bumrah had picked up a back injury earlier last month, which had ruled him out of the Asia Cup. He returned for the three-match T20I Series against Australia, which India won 2-1, and picked up a wicket in two matches.

West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews top scored for the West Indies with 30 and then returned to take four crucial wickets while conceding 12 runs with the ball, but ended up on the losing side. Hayley had got the West Indies innings off to a flyer, smashing four boundaries on the way to 30 off 28 balls, but Fran deceived her with the left-arm spin and had her skying a comfortable catch to Suzie.

But it was not just the sizzling knocks of Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and David Miller which made headlines from the match. There were two interruptions -- one each in the first and second innings -- which made waves on social media. The first one, happened during India's innings after South Africa inserted them into batting first. At the end of the seventh over, visuals of ground staff running quickly on the field with sticks and a bucket in hand were seen to remove a snake which was making its presence felt at the outfield.

Bumrah missed the Asia Cup due to the same injury but made his return in the T20I series against Australia. Though he missed the first game, he was available for the final two matches which India won to win the series.

With uncertainty over injured Jaspreet Bumrah's availability for the mega event, Indian team management is set to carry at least two additional fast bowlers as back-up for the premier pacer and net bowlers in the preparatory phase of the tournament. Siraj and Umran will travel with the squad to Perth on October 6, where the Indian team will train for a week before travelling to Brisbane for its first warm-up match on October 17.

The 28-year-old was rushed to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday to undergo scans on his back after being ruled out of the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa. It has been learnt that Bumrah went for scans and the assessment is underway at the NCA.
