Turkish Parliament ratifies motion on launching cross-border operations in Iraq, Syria
The motion, passed on Tuesday, will authorise cross-border operations to be carried out in Iraq and Syria from October 30, 2021 to October 30, 2023, Xinhua News Agency reported. The previous cross-border motions were only for one-year duty. The motion also allowed the deployment of foreign armed forces in Turkey with the principles to be determined by the president.

Armed men start leaving Syria's Daraa under new deal
A total of 45 armed men and some of their family members left by buses for northern Syria on Thursday after they refused to reconcile with the Syrian authorities in Daraa, Xinhua news agency quoted the report as saying. The evacuation is part of a deal to restore security in Daraa, the report said. Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the armed men who were evacuated on Thursday were the second batch.
Israel launches missile strikes at Syria
The Syrian air defences responded to the attacks late Thursday night, intercepting most of the Israeli missiles, Xinhua news agency quoted a military source as saying to local media. The Syrian authorities were assessing the damages caused by the strikes, the source added. The sounds of explosions were clearly heard in Damascus as the Syrian air defenses were responding to the attack.

Speaking during his inauguration ceremony on Saturday, Assad said the focus of the next phase will be on increasing production, which is the key to improving livelihood amid the tough economic hardship in Syria, reports Xinhua news agency. Assad made the remarks in a televised address on Friday after his election victory, where he said the vote constituted an "unprecedented challenge to enemies of the homeland", apparently referring to the Western-backed exiled opposition, the armed rebels, and the US and its allies which have denounced the election as "illegitimate", reports Xinhua news agency.
Assad wins 4th term as Syrian President
In a statement on Thursday, Parliament Speaker Hamoudeh Sabbagh said that Assad won 95.1 per cent of the vote as opposed to 88.7 per cent in the 2014 election, reports Xinhua news agency. He said that about 14 million of the estimated 18 million eligible voters inside and outside Syria cast their votes, with a turnout rate of 78.64 per cent.

"We are proud to come and take part in this election as it is our national duty," a woman told Syrian television in Aleppo, the second-largest city in Syria. The broadcaster showed people dancing and waving Syrian flags as well as pictures of al-Assad in front of polling stations in various areas in Damascus and Sweida, in south-western Syria.
President Assad, 2 others approved to contest in Syrian Prez polls
The announcement was made on Monday by head of the Syrian Higher Constitutional Court, Jihad al-Laham, Xinhua news agency reported. Besides Assad, the other two candidates are Mahmoud Ahmed Muri and Abdullah Salloum Abdullah. The three applicants have passed all legal and constitutional requirements, while the rest of the 51 candidates have been rejected, including seven women, al-Laham said.
