President Assad, 2 others approved to contest in Syrian Prez polls
The announcement was made on Monday by head of the Syrian Higher Constitutional Court, Jihad al-Laham, Xinhua news agency reported. Besides Assad, the other two candidates are Mahmoud Ahmed Muri and Abdullah Salloum Abdullah. The three applicants have passed all legal and constitutional requirements, while the rest of the 51 candidates have been rejected, including seven women, al-Laham said.
Russia: Up to 200 fighters killed in Syria airstrike

130 airstrikes target IS positions in Syrian desert
The intensified airstrikes were carried out by Russian warplanes against the IS positions in the Syrian desert as the latter attacked and captured several Syrian military sites,The watchdog group said the IS militants later withdrew from the sites they had advanced to, fearing the airstrikes.

The sounds of Syrian anti-air weapons were heard in Damascus following the attack on Wednesday night. The report cited a military source as saying that the attack was carried out from over the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and targeted some military sites in south of Damascus.
