Shooting World Cup: Prithviraj Tondaiman wins bronze, first individual world cup medal

Prithviraj finished with 20 hits from the first 25 targets in the medal match to settle for bronze at the Lusail Shooting Range. The 40-year-old Turkish athlete Tuzun Oguzhan won gold, after coming through a 14-way shoot-off for the final qualifying spot. He shot 33 targets in the 35-shot medal match as Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Matthew John Coward-Holley won silver with 30 hits to his name.

The 22-year-old was unfortunate to miss out on a medal, finishing in ninth place after a five-way shoot-off. Ganemat shot 120 out of 125 after two days of qualification and found herself in a shoot-off for the final four qualifying spots with four others. She missed her first shoot-off shot to finish just outside the top eight.

Speaking after the match Aishwary said, "I had not performed well twice earlier at this range so this time I was determined to go back with a medal." On asking what was his mindset after a slow start in the ranking round, Aishwary said, "It did not affect me much. As I said I was very determined and was confident that I could always come back in my favourite Standing position and that's what happened."

The 19-year-old Indian beat Maximilian Ulbrich 16-8 in the final. Croatia's Miran Maricic took the bronze medal. This was Patil's second gold at the ongoing competition, having won the mixed team gold on Monday. After finishing seventh in the qualification round with 629.3, Patil topped the ranking match with 262 on the back of some sensational shooting to make it to the gold medal play-off against the German, who finished second with 260.6.

Manu, Esha and Shikha made the final after shooting through two rounds of qualification. In the first, they topped the field with a score of 862 which equalled the Asian record in the event. They remained on top in the second qualification round as well with a combined score of 576.

Mehuli, a 2018 Youth Olympics silver medal winner, finished behind Cho in the ranking round with a score of 261.1 as the South Korean topped the table with 262.5. However, in the gold medal match, the Indian shooter came out on top by a 16-12 scoreline. Meanwhile, former world No.1 and Tokyo Olympian Elavenil Valarivan had a disappointing outing and finished sixth in the ranking round.

According to information received here, the gold came from Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar in the 10m Air Rifle Men Junior event while Kiran Ankush Jadhav shot silver in the corresponding senior competition. Sri Karthik Sabari Raj Ravishankar also won a bronze in the Junior Men's Air Rifle. Divyansh out-gunned local favourite Bang Seungho 17-9 in the gold medal match after topping the ranking round with a score of 260.7. Sri Karthik shot 258.8 to finish behind Seungho and settle for bronze.

However, he along with Paralympic Games gold medallist Manish Narwal and teammate Nihal Singh captured the gold medal in the team section of the event, all three doing well to make it to the final of the individual event on Wednesday. The team of Rahul Jakhar, Singhraj and Nihal Singh won the gold in the Team event. In the individual event, Rahul Jakhar won the bronze medal, finishing behind Kim Jungnam of South Korea and Olseken Denysiuk of Ukraine. Jungnam finished with 28 points ahead of Denysiuk and Jakhar ended with 21 points.

The squad had finished third overall with 27 medals in Chagwon while in the current championship where the Shotgun worlds was held in Osijek, Croatia, followed by the Rifle/Pistol championship in Cairo, Egypt, India have won a total of 38 medals and are placed second behind China in the combined medal tally.
