Rajasthan: 30 MLAs, 5 ministers in Congress first list of 33 candidates

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his ministers and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot have found place in the first list of 33 candidates released by the Congress on Saturday.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the CWC list on Sunday. The name of Sachin Pilot -- an MLA from Rajasthan's Tonk constituency, has also been included in it.

The Chief Minister said: "You must have seen that in the recently-concluded Assembly elections in Karnataka, a 90-year-old candidate contested the polls and won. That's why tickets will be given to those who can win."

If sources in one section of the Congress are to be believed Pilot will be joining as general secretary in the Congress Working Committee soon and hence will lead the apex team of the Congress. The other section is confident that he will be given a decent role and his position in Rajasthan will be elevated.

Surprisingly, Pilot remains quiet on the issue while other leaders right from Rajya Sabha MP Venugopal, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and others are denying the speculation. Meanwhile, IANS contacted a few leaders who say that Pilot and Congress are synonymous with each other and there is no question of their separation.
