Italy, Romania expel 40 Russian diplomats
"This measure, taken in agreement with other European and Atlantic partners, was necessary for reasons related to national security," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported. Also on Tuesday, Romania decided to expel ten Russian diplomats. Spain will expel 27 Russian diplomats and embassy staff in the next few days, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has said.
US to deploy additional 3,000 troops to Europe amid Ukraine tensions
The deployment includes 1,000 troops currently based in Germany to be repositioned to Romania and another 2,000 troops to be sent from the US to Germany and Poland, John Kirby, the Defense Department's spokesman, was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
"These are not permanent moves. They are moves designed to respond to the current security environment."
New Romanian govt takes oath of office
The official installment of the three-party coalition government put an end to a long political instability in the country after the minority cabinet led by Florin Citu collapsed in a parliamentary no-confidence vote on October 5, reports Xinhua news agency. "The political crisis is over, but the other crises aren't, nor have the problems disappeared," said President Klaus Iohannis after the members of the new government were sworn in at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
