Deluge Hits Delhi-NCR, Smashing Decades-Old Rainfall Record

According to Meteorological Department, Delhi got 228 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am Thursday and 8.30 am Friday—the highest 24-hour June rainfall since 1936—when it had recorded 235.5 mm. This is much more than Delhi's average June rainfall of 80.6 mm.

As the downpour this early morning paralyzed the capital, flight operations at Terminal 1 were suspended indefinitely, leaving thousands of commuters stranded on their way to work, school or important appointments. Key tunnels, including at Pragati Maidan, were shut down and reports of flooding poured in from several parts of the city despite this being an upscale area like Hauz Khas, South Extension, Mayur Vihar.
IMD Forecasts Below-Normal June Rainfall as Monsoon Progress Slows in India

The normals for the onset and withdrawal of the monsoons are June 1 in the southern part of the country spreading over the whole nation by July 8. IMD now feels that the country as a whole is likely to receive rainfall below 92 percent of the long period average. This comes against the earlier expectation of rainfall being normal during June.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon rainfall during 2023 is expected to be “below normal” or on the lower side of “normal”. This has raised concerns about the yield of kharif crops and sowing in the subsequent rabi season, the report said.
Delhi records maximum of 31.4 degrees C, moderate rain likely on Tuesday

The relative humidity at 8.30 p.m was recorded at 95 per cent. The India Meteorological Department has also forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain for Tuesday and the expected range for the maximum and minimum temperatures is around 31 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Rain lashes Delhi, temp drops to 26 degrees

In its forecast for Thursday, the weather department has forecast cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle throughout the day.  A yellow alert has also been issued, warning of flooding on low-lying areas leading to disruption of traffic on key roads. Moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds (speed 20-40kmph) is also likely in the national capital on July 8.
Monsoon likely to withdraw from some areas between Sep 29-Oct 5: IMD

According to the IMD, conditions are likely to become favourable for the withdrawal of monsoon from the next week. "Due to trough/ cyclonic circulation over central and peninsular India, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and isolated thunderstorm/ lightning likely over central and peninsular India during most days between September 29 - October 5," the IMD said.
