CM Nitish, Rahul Gandhi meeting goes on for nearly an hour

Nitish Kumar reached Gandhi's residence at 6.10 p.m. and only left at 7.08 p.m. Prior to reaching New Delhi, Nitish Kumar called on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav at the official residence of his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi in Patna. She was also present in their meeting, along with Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

Union Home Ministry gets busy preparing the ground for J and K polls

If Home Ministry sources are to be believed, elections can be held in the Union Territory next year. According to information available, Union Home Minister Amit Shah can visit the UT in September end. If everything goes smoothly, the Assembly polls can be held next year. According to sources it will be more convenient if the Assembly polls are held in March or April next year.

The Congress has deferred its presidential election to next month. The chorus for Rahul Gandhi becoming the party's national chief has been growing. Many party leaders have openly demanded that he be made the president, the post he quit in June 2019 after a poll debacle. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has, however, declined to run for the party chief's post again even as efforts are on to persuade him. Senior leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Salman Khurshid have said that they will try to convince Rahul Gandhi on the matter.
Opposition has no way but to go to the people: Rahul

In a tweet on Wednesday he said: "Every election needs a well defined & clear electoral college. The process of forming the electoral college must also be clear, well defined & transparent. Tharoor, will he or won't he contest Cong poll?

As soon as the article became public, it gave rise to speculation that he might throw his hat in the ring to contest for the top post, but on Tuesday he clarified to the media saying: "I never said that I will contest, the rest can be discussed later," said Tharoor before driving away. Meanwhile, one will have to wait a bit to know if Tharoor is actually in the contest as the last date for filing of the nomination to the top post is September 30, according to the notification that has been brought out by AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C.Venugopal.

While some G-23 leaders have left the party and some even joined the BJP while some others had distanced themselves, Azad had said that he has been forced to leave and Manish Tewari has reiterated that he is not a tenant but a shareholder in the party. However, the G-23, after exit of Azad, seems to have become rather leaderless.
