Oscars 2021: McDormand wolf whistles for late crew member

Her speech had this line from "Macbeth": "My voice is my sword, we know the sword is our work, and I like work." McDormand ended her speech with a wolf howl into the mike. The gesture was meant to be a tribute to sound mixer of the film, Michael Wolf Snyder, who committed suicide recently. He was 35.

From an all-black producing team being nominated for Best Picture, to Asian origin actors taking home the trophy, to deaf and mute presenter Marlee Matlin -- the Oscars this year made space for life in all its diversity.  The awards themselves held a little surprise. Chloe Zhao expectedly won the Best Director honour and her film "Nomadland" won the Best Picture award.

Sean Connery and Chadwick Boseman were also among many others that the Academy remembered in the special tribute segment. Oscar nominee Angela Bassett gave a speech with the tribute, which was shown in the form of a video clip and was a homage to achievers the world of screen lost over the past year, including actors, writers, directors, and technicians.
Oscars 2021: India's 'Bittu' makes it to Live Action Short Film shortlist

Karishma Dev Dube's "Bittu" is part of the ten-movie list. The film has been presented by Ekta Kapoor, Guneet Monga and Tahira Kashyap under their Indian Women Rising initiative. Now, members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch will vote to determine if the film makes the nomination cut.
