Omicron enters Maharashtra via Delhi as Thane man tests positive
The passenger who is exhibiting mild symptoms, is currently under treatment at a Covid centre in Kalyan-Dombivali. The infectee reached here from Cape Town on November 24 and then complained of low fever but has not exhibited any other symptoms, said the official. Moving swiftly, the Thane health authorities launched a drive and traced 12 of his high-risk contacts and 23 low-risk contacts, but all have tested negative.

"Given the fast pace of vaccination in India and high exposure to Delta variant as evidenced by high seropositivity, the severity of the disease is anticipated to be low. However, scientific evidence is still evolving," said the Health Ministry on Friday. It added further that the scale and magnitude of rise in cases and most importantly the severity of disease that will be caused is still not clear.

He also said that the samples have been sent for genomes sequencing to Bengaluru. Three family members, who travelled along with the 10-year-old boy, had tested Covid-19 positive and have been put under quarantine.
One Omicron patient already recovered, another in quarantine, says Karnataka
According to Health Department sources, one of the infected people has already recovered, while the other is in under hotel quarantine in Bengaluru. The BBMP has tracked primary contacts of the two infected persons. While 12 primary contacts of the first infected person tested negative, 212 primary contacts of second infected have been quarantined and their results are awaited. All are asymptomatic.

Balram Bhargava said, "Two cases of Omircron have been detected in Karnataka so far through genome sequencing effort of INSACOG consortium of 37 laboratories established by the Ministry of Health. We need not panic, but awareness is absolutely essential. Covid appropriate behaviour is required,". The contacts of the duo who tested positive for the latest variant have been identified and are under monitoring, he said.
Omicron situation being monitored, final decision on int'l flights resumption soon: DGCA
According to civil aviation regulator DGCA, stakeholders are being consulted on the evolving situation. "In view of the evolving global scenario with the emergence of new 'Variants of Concern', the situation is being watched closely in consultation with all stakeholders," the DGCA said in a circular issued on Wednesday. "An appropriate decision indicating the effective date of resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services shall be notified in due course." Earlier, India had decided to allow resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services from December 15.
No case of Omicron variant detected in India so far: Mandaviya
He was responding to a question during the Question Hour. The Covid situation in the country, he said, is under control but measures are being taking to pervent it from spreading further. A total of 124 crore vaccination doses have been administered to the eligible population till date. Earlier in the morning, the Union Health Secretary chaired a review meeting with the states and UTs on the emergence of the new Covid variant. The states were advised to ramp up testing for early identification of positive cases and its management.
Delhi's LNJP hospital designated to treat Omicron patients
The hospital has been asked to earmark wards for isolating and treating such patients. In an order, the Health Department has directed the hospital not to deny admission to patients infected with the new variant on any ground. As per the guidelines, a separate isolation unit has to be set up for the patients indicating the presence of Omicron.
CM Arvind Kejriwal writes to PM Modi to stop flight in view of new Covid variant
In the letter to PM Modi, Kejriwal urged to stop flights from the region where these new variants have been detected, from immediate effect. "Our country has fought a tough fight against Corona for the last one-and-a-half year. We should do everything possible to prevent the new variant of concern from entering India," Arvind Kejriwal said in the letter.
