Now Mizoram starts collecting biometrics of 35K Myanmar nationals

Around 35,000 Myanmar nationals, including children and women, have taken shelter in Mizoram since February 2021 after the Myanmar military, following a coup, took over governance. A Mizoram Home Department official said that the process of recording biometric data of Myanmar nationals was launched in all the 11 districts a few days ago.

Modi to attend BIMSTEC summit on March 30

BIMSTEC is a regional organisation that was established on June 6, 1997, with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration. "The summit meeting, which is being held in virtual mode, will be hosted by Sri Lanka, the current BIMSTEC chair," the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday. To prepare for the summit, meetings of BIMSTEC Senior Officials (SOM) will take place on March 28, followed by meetings of the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers (BMM) the next day.
Arunachal to develop 3 'Model Villages' along China, Myanmar

The Chief Minister said that a special scheme for 'Model Villages' was recently launched that aims to develop selected border villages with all facilities by dovetailing various Central and state government schemes. "The scheme would be fully implemented in the coming years, but as of now we have selected three villages under it. You may be pleased to know that all the three villages are in Anjaw district. They are Kaho, Musai and Kibithoo".
Government prioritising border fencing with Myanmar to check infiltration: Manipur CM N.Biren Singh

N. Biren also said that the Union Home Ministry had already started fencing along the India-Myanmar border in Manipur which is around 400-km-long. However, the process was halted in some areas due to land disputes but it continued elsewhere.

The police said the incident took place at around 11 a.m. near Sehken village, as the heavily armed suspected People's Liberation Army (PLA) militants fired upon the convoy of Assam Rifles Colonel Viplav Tripathi, killing him, his wife, their 9-year-old son, three Quick Reaction Team (QRT) jawans and the driver on the spot.
26 Delhi-bound Myanmarese nationals held in Guwahati

A police spokesman said that acting on secret information, police arrested the 26 Myanmarese nationals, who include seven teenagers and rest aged 20 to 28, from a private lodge at Rehabari here. Upon interrogation, it was found that the apprehended foreign citizens belonged to Falam district of Chin state of Myanmar and they were on their way to Delhi to study the Bible.
With fresh influx, refugees from Myanmar to Mizoram go up to 11K

District administrations and police officials said that around 150 to 160 people, including women and children, took shelter in Mizoram's Champhai, Lawngtlai and Hnahthial districts bordering Myanmar during the past few days. Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana told the media here that if the attacks and counter-attacks by the Myanmar military and the opposition forces continue, more people are likely come into Mizoram for shelter.
Mizoram CM urges Modi to provide asylum to Myanmar refugees

Zoramthanga in a letter to Modi sought his intervention so that the refugees from Myanmar are given asylum, food and shelter in India. Referring to Union Home Ministry's advisories to the Chief Secretaries of the four northeastern states bordering Myanmar and also to the Assam Rifles and Border Security Forces for taking action to prevent illegal influx from Myanmar into India, Zoramthanga said, "This is not acceptable to Mizoram."
