NHAI prohibits slow moving vehicles including 2-wheelers on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

Two-wheelers, including motorcycles and scooters, three-wheelers, non-motorised vehicles, and tractors with or without trailers have been barred from entry onto the newly launched phase 1 of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway. NHAI has issued a gazette notification on this saying that the movement of high-speed vehicles may pose risk to the safety of certain classes of comparatively slow-moving vehicles.
First phase of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway opens today

The route will ensure that the Delhi-Jaipur travel time gets reduced by two hours. Total one way toll for a private car on the New Delhi-Jaipur route will be Rs 585. Toll on the new-way will be based on total number of kilometres travelled. The eight-lane expressway will have a 120kmph speed limit for cars with wayside facilities every 30km.
Rear seat occupants sans seat belt to be penalised soon: Nitin Gadkari

Nitin Gadkari said that a notification in this regard will be issued in the next three days. Gadkari's comment came two days after industrialist and former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and his friend Jahangir Pandole were killed when their Mercedes car hit a road divider in Maharashtra's Palghar district. Mistry was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. The minister said that the highest number of people dying in road accidents in India belong to the 18-34 age group. On the sidelines of an event on Monday, Gadkari had said that people think that passengers sitting on the rear seat don't need to waer seat belts. 
Will develop Indian road network at par with America by 2024: Gadkari

Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that he has a goal of establishing a road network in India at par with America by 2024. Speaking here after laying the foundation stones for five national highways, he stated that every development activity depended on road connectivity and realizing this, the government is committed to strengthening the road network in the country.
Record 40 kilometres per day of new highways

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari seems to have lost weight, but that hasn't stopped him from creating new records in highway construction in the country. There was a time not very long ago when critics had scoffed at the needless grandeur and pomp displayed by the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he launched the Golden Quadrilateral project to link the four biggest cities of India with spanking new highways.

Gadkari further said that this is the beginning of a new era of smart and green highways in India. He also said that the groundbreaking ceremony of this new proposed expressway link will be held in the coming 10-12 days in the presence of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath. Delhi and Lucknow are currently connected via the Yamuna or Taj Expressway. At present the travel time between the two cities is over 7 hours.
Govt issues notification on electronic monitoring, road safety

The rules specify the detailed provisions for placement of electronic enforcement devices . In the notification, the ministry has asked the state governments to ensure that electronic enforcement devices are placed at high-risk and high-density corridors on the National Highways and state highways and at critical junctions at least in major cities with more than one million population.
India constructed 703 km of highways using plastic waste

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha, in a written reply, that the ministry has issued guidelines for mandatory use of waste plastic in periodic renewal with hot mixes and in wearing coat of service road on national highways within 50km periphery of an urban area having population of more than 5 lakhs. Use of plastic waste in construction of road protects the environment.
Global road safety body writes to Nitin Gadkari to identify 'blackspots' on India's roads

"The blackspots / grey spots removal from the road network definitely makes for a distinct and measurable difference in the road safety outcome in the states as measured through their accident/crash data records. However, the present ongoing blackspot programme delivered till date is without any appropriate scientific guidelines for investigation and rectification.
