Chief Justice Roberts, Vice President Harris, Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Leader McConnell, Vice President Pence, distinguished guests, and my fellow Americans, This is America's day. This is democracy's day. A day of history and hope. Of renewal and resolve. Through a crucible for the ages, America has been tested anew and America has risen to the challenge. Today, we celebrate the triumph not of a candidate, but of a cause, the cause of democracy.

Harris is now the highest-ranking woman ever to serve in American government. Harris was sworn in Wednesday by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court.

Harris is wearing Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, according to chatter filtering from her aides. Rogers, a New York City resident, is a young Black designer, from Baton Rouge. Sergio is Black designer from South Carolina. Both Rogers and Hudson have dressed former First Lady Michelle Obama and Beyonce.

Tarun Chhabra, a first-generation American and a graduate of Stanford University, Oxford University, and Harvard Law School, will serve as Senior Director for Technology and National Security. Sumona Guha, a graduate of Johns Hopkins and Georgetown University, has been appointed as Senior Director for South Asia and former journalist Shanthi Kalathil will be Coordinator for Democracy and Human Rights.

Warnock became the first Black Senator in his state's history, defeating Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler in a stinging rebuke of Trumpism. News networks called the election for Warnock after an analysis of outstanding votes showed his rival Kelly Loeffler could not catch up.

Currently serving as an advancement specialist for the Smithsonian institution, Shah was born in Kashmir but raised in Louisiana. She was also a part of the Biden-Harris campaign as digital partnerships manager and will now handle the position in the White House Digital Strategy Office headed by Rob Flaherty, Director of Digital Strategy, according to an announcement by the Biden transition team. 

In fact, Biden's inauguration team is urging Americans to stay home and watch history unfold on their television or digital screens. Pointing to the "unprecedented" public health crisis, the inaugural committee plans for an extremely small "footprint" of the in-person event that "honors and resembles sacred American traditions" and also keeps Americans safe.

"The 59th Presidential Inauguration will be a historic and exciting event that showcases the strength and diversity of our nation -- and one that every American can enjoy from their home," the Biden inaugural committee said.

On Monday, Biden and Harris's victory was sealed in the Electoral College after electors from every state gathered at Capitols across the country. They voted 306 for Biden and 232 for President Donald Trump. Members of Congress are expected to certify the Electoral College vote on January 6, 2021, after which Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President on January 20.
