"I didn't sleep much last night, was a bit excited, also nervous about how the auction was going to go. But yeah, absolutely overwhelmed and incredibly humbled that I managed to get what I did. I never had any expectations to receive that," Curran said on Star Sports show 'Cricket Live -- Auction Special'.

Brook made his England T20I debut against West Indies this year. In 17 innings, he has averaged 26.57 at a strike rate of 137.77 and was a part of England's T20 World Cup-winning team in Australia. Recently, he was named Player of the Series in England's 3-0 Test series triumph in Pakistan for scoring three centuries on tour.

There was intense bidding between MI, CSK, RR, LSG, and PBKS for Curran, who was Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup in Australia. However, PBKS eventually got the England all-rounder. After Curran, Australia all-rounder Cameron Green also attracted big bids from franchises and became the second-most expensive player in the IPL history after Mumbai Indians picked him for a whopping Rs 17.5 crore.

"We did a good job in the last Auction. We have retained 19 players which shows the belief the management has on our current team. However, we do have a few gaps in our squad and we have identified the kind of players we need to acquire during the Auction according to our purse," said Delhi Capitals' assistant coach Pravin Amre in a media release ahead of the Mini-Auction.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the development is a big relief for the IPL teams, who were predicting limited or conditional no-objection certificate (NOC) for the players from England and Australia because of the Ashes series -- the traditional and oldest cricket rivalry between the two teams.

The network will broadcast the IPL 2023 player auction in five languages -- English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Bishop, Moody, Finch and Katich, all of whom have been present in the IPL in broadcast, playing and coaching situations, will be present for the English feed along with Mayanti Langer.Pathan, the former India left-arm pacer who had played for six IPL teams in his playing career,will be giving his views on auction strategies and player recruitment in the Hindi feed alongside Aakash Chopra, and Amol Mazumdar with Jatin Sapru for company.

Ahmed, who became the youngest player to take a five-wicket haul during England's victory against Pakistan in the third and final Test at Karachi recently, will sit out the series in New Zealand as head coach Brendon McCullum and the selectors have decided to juggle the squad to give players rest ahead of the Ashes series and the ODI World Cup in India later in 2023.
