The Chief Minister said that the government will look into it and will initiate actions if any unlawful things were done by the officers. "But this does not mean that the eviction will stop. Wherever any illegal encroachment is found, we will do an eviction. This government is not here to sit idle. For 365 days up to five years, we will continue our work," he added.

Although Assam does not have any major elections slated for next year, the political environment is hot with Sarma at the centre. Three northeastern states -- Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland -- will go to the polls in early 2023. However, Assam will remain the epicentre of these state elections as Sarma, chairman of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), will be the primary pulling force for the BJP's election machinery in these states.

On October 1, the Assam government had withdrawn the 'disturbed area' tag from West Karbi Anglong district under the contentious AFSPA, while AFSPA was extended for another six months in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao districts along with Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar district.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said while speaking at the 70th Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council in Guwahati, "Insurgency was a major issue in the Northeast that was hindering the progress of the region on multiple fronts." Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday fired a fresh salvo at the Congress over a tweet by the party. The Congress' tweet read: "To free the country from shackles of hate and undo the damage done by BJP-RSS. Step by step, we will reach our goal. The party also shared a picture showing a partially burnt RSS uniform, mentioning that "145 days more to go".

A leader of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti (BGUS) was addressing the gathering when a local leader of TRS climbed the dais, and confronted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking objection to the comments he made earlier. He also tried to dislodge the mike. BGUS leaders caught hold of the TRS leader and whisked him away.

Sarma, who is also the convener of the BJP-led anti-Congress alliance of regional parties -- NEDA, said this while reacting to Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia's assertion that Kejriwal would emerge as the main challenger to PM Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Reacting to the allegations of the AAP that the Centre is trying to destroy the health service model initiated by the Kejriwal-led Delhi government, the Assam Chief Minister remarked that Delhi's 'mohalla clinics' cannot be a model for health service.
