There were plenty of delays during India's innings, with the visitors forced to hit out late after a weather break saw the match initially reduced to 40 overs per side. Another rain delay at the end of the 36th over saw India's innings completed even earlier, with the visitors posting a decent total of 225/3 from their allotted overs.

The best thing is everything is performing, nice to see that. That's a big positive for us, happy with that. After the match, captain Nicholas Pooran rued the inability of his team to keep India quiet in the final few overs of the match. "We lost it in the last overs, Axar played well and we didn't hold our nerves. We could not keep things down in the last five overs. We felt that it got easier to hit spinners. We gambled with Akeal bowling against left-handers. One wicket would have opened up things but Axar played brilliantly."

Chasing a mammoth 312 for victory in a 50-over game is always an uphill task and India were in a sport of bother when they required 100 from the last 10 overs with Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda at the crease and just five wickets remaining on Sunday night (IST). But the two combined patience with pluck and found the boundaries when needed to chase down the target with just two balls remaining. Earlier Shai Hope's century and Kyle Mayers' quick-fire 39 had given the hosts a confident start after they won the toss and opted to bat first.

India fined 20 per cent of match fees for slow over rate in first ODI against West Indies

Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. "In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," said an official release from the ICC.

Sunday's match is being played on the pitch which was used in the first ODI on Friday, which India won in a thrilling fashion by three runs. After winning the toss, Pooran said leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr. comes in for left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie in the playing eleven. An official update from the West Indies team said Walsh Jr, originally a reserve player, was added to the ODI squad as Motie suffered a fractured thumb during Friday's match.

After the match, captain Nicholas Pooran said the match result felt "like a win" for his side despite ending up on the losing side. West Indies had entered the series against India in Trinidad after their 3-0 defeat to Bangladesh in Guyana earlier this month. He added that using full batting quota of 50 overs and coming close to 308 were the biggest positives for the hosts.
