Hyundai, Kia's US sales fall 11% amid chip shortage

Hyundai, its independent Genesis brand, and Kia sold 128,283 vehicles in the world's most important automobile market in July compared with 143,779 units a year ago, according to the companies' sales data. Hyundai's sales declined 11 per cent to 60,631 units last month from 68,500 a year ago. Kia's were also down 11 per cent to 62,449 from 70,099 during the same period, reports Yonhap news agency.

Net profit for the three months ended in June rose to 1.88 trillion won ($1.43 billion) from 1.34 trillion won in the same period of last year, the company said in a statement. The second-quarter bottom line was buoyed by increased sales of high-end SUV models, decreased incentives and the won's weakness against the dollar, reports Yonhap news agency.

Net profit for the three months ended in June rose to 3.08 trillion won (US$2.34 billion) from 1.98 trillion won during the same period of last year, the company said in a statement. In the six-month period, Hyundai sold a total of 1.88 million vehicles, achieving 43 per cent of its sales target of 4.34 million units for the year.
Hyundai's sales fall 4.5% globally amid chip shortage

Hyundai Motor sold a total of 340,534 vehicles in June, down from 356,631 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement. Domestic sales fell 13 percent to 59,510 units from 68,407 during the period, while overseas sales declined 2.5 percent to 281,024 from 288,224, reports Yonhap news agency. From January to June, sales dropped 7.6 per cent to 1,877,193 autos from 2,031,185 units during the same period of last year.
Hyundai to create new US affiliate after $10.5 bn investment pledge

The new affiliate, tentatively named HMG Global, will be established in Delaware state in the US and funded by Hyundai's three flagship arms -- Hyundai Motor, Kia and Hyundai Mobis, according to regulatory filings posted by the companies.Hyundai Motor and its smaller affiliate Kia will together inject a combined $578 million in the new American unit, reports Yonhap news agency.
Maruti, Hyundai led domestic, export sales in April

As per the export data released by SIAM, Maruti Suzuki had shipped out 18,216 units (17,131 units in April 2021) while Hyundai Motors exported 12,200 units last month (10,201 units).

In conversation with IANS, Hyundai Motor India's Director Sales and Marketing Tarun Garg said though it is hard to give a timeline for normal supply of semiconductors, however, the shortages have eased. Chip shortage, fuel cost subdue October auto sales

High fuel cost and longer waiting periods also dampened the sales momentum. In terms of sales, auto major Maruti Suzuki India's October total sales fell over 24 per cent to 138,335 units in October 2021 from 182,448 units sold during the corresponding period of last year. Besides, the company's total domestic sales including passenger and commercial vehicles in addition to off-take by other OEMs fell during the month under review.
Hyundai to up EV ratio to 80% by 2040

All-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles currently account for a mere 1.5 per cent of Hyundai's global sales and it initially aims to raise the ratio to 30 per cent by 2030, reports Yonhap News Agency. To achieve the aim, Hyundai said it will gradually replace its product lineup sold in Europe with hydrogen or battery-powered models by 2035 and in other major markets by 2040.
