Announcing a deal with the Greens and Free Democrats, SPD leader Olaf Scholz, who will be the new Chancellor, highlighted greater progress in a coalition "on equal terms", the BBC reported. cholz, who was for long Merkel's Vice Chancellor, however, noted that the three parties' rank and file had to approve what has been labelled their "traffic-light" coalition, because of the parties' red, yellow and green colours.
Germany's Covid incidence rate rises to all-time high

On Monday, the incidence rate was already at a record high of 201.1. The previous peak -- just below 200 -- was registered during the second Covid-19 wave in December last year. The daily number of Covid-19 cases also continued to rise as 21,832 new infections were registered within one day, around 11,000 more than a week earlier, Xinhua news agency reported. According to the German Intensive Care Availability Register (DIVI), the number of Covid-19 patients requiring treatment in intensive care units (ICUs) also kept climbing and reached 2,687 on Tuesday.

Germany: 3 parties to enter coalition talks for next govt

The SDP was the first Party to speak out in favour of the talks of what they call “The traffic signal coalition”, named after the traditional colors of three parties. The SDP's call made on October 15 was later supported by The Greens. Talking to public broadcaster ARD last week ,  SDP’s Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz said that one goal was pursued by all three parties and therefore they would form a new government before Christmas.  
Israel's security central to every German govt: Merkel
