Perpetrator arrested after hostage-taking in Germany

The suspected perpetrator had taken several people hostage in a pharmacy at around 4:30 p.m., Xinhua news agency reported, citing German news agency dpa. A subsequent operation lasted several hours before police entered the pharmacy at around 9:10 p.m. and arrested a suspect, said Karlsruhe's police. The building is currently being searched, and no injuries has been reported, according to preliminary findings.

Earlier media reports said the shooting, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Thursday night, killed six people. But one more body was found on the upper part of the building later, Xinhua news agency reported citing the German newspaper Bild as saying. Police have said that a gunman is believed to be dead, but it remains unclear if the attacker is among seven fatalities, the newspaper added.

Pistorius added that his ministry would check the country's stocks of the Leopard tank for possible delivery to Ukraine in the next few weeks, Xinhua news agency reported.
