“I should pay tribute to the Indian presidency. The Indian presidency did its best in order to have the South's voice represented and did its best to put development agenda in the centre of the discussions of the G20," he said on Wednesday.

The G20 Leaders' summit, conducted during India's presidency, concluded on Sunday. On the summit's sidelines, leaders from the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union jointly introduced the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). This corridor is being viewed as an alternative to China's contentious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Fellow G20 nations from Brazil to South Africa have hailed India’s success in drafting the final New Delhi declaration that remained as elusive as ever just days before world leaders gathered in the Indian capital. The most difficult part for the G20 presidency led by India was not just finding consensus on Russia's war in Ukraine.

Hailing Modi's diplomatic skills aided by his foreign office team secured  support for climate financing to assist developing countries (but no hard targets except extending the 2010 pledges by developed countries to transfer $100 billion a year to developing countries by 2025). 

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan called the statement a "significant milestone for India's chairmanship and a vote of confidence that the G20 can come together to address a pressing range of issues."

The same question has been asked every year since, with the insinuation that it’s the incumbent president of the time who is responsible for it. And it’s being asked again now as US President Joe Biden joins G20 leaders — barring two glaring absenteesphenomenon Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping — in New Delhi for an annual meet.

Khan, who is also a trusted aide of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also asserted that his country will get some good results from the G20 Summit.

“It’s incumbent upon the Chinese government to explain why its leader would or would not participate,” said Jon Finer, the US Deputy National Security Adviser, while speaking to reporters in New Delhi.

The legislation, known as the "Technology Exports to India Act," was presented by Congressmen Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Andy Barr, the vice chair of the House India Caucus.
