FPIs continue selling, withdrew Rs 41,123 cr from Indian equity in March

The sell-off by the FPIs in March is way more than they pulled out in January and February of Rs 33,303 crore and Rs 35,592 crore, respectively. The recent sell-off was triggered by policy rate hike by the US Federal Reserve which made the country more attractive for investments.

This week, both the key Indian equity indices scaled new highs. The BSE Sensex, on Tuesday touched a record intra-day high of 58,553.07 points and the Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange hit its all-time high of 17,436.50 points. The total net investment last year stood at Rs 16,556 crore. The inflow of FPIs continues amid a recovery in the economy and improving macroeconomic numbers.
FPIs sold stocks in financial, IT sectors in July

FPIs pulled out $1,535 million from financial stocks last month, according to a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. IT and industrials witnessed an outflow of $465 million and $218 million, respectively, worth of foreign portfolio investments. Net FPI outflow from the equities stood at Rs 11,308 crore in July, as per NSDL data. NSDL data shows that FPI assets under custody increased marginally in July.
FPIs invest Rs 5,001 cr in Indian equities so far in August

The FPIs have made a comeback after a net outflow of Rs 11,308 crore in July. With the investments in August, the net FPI investment in the equities segment in 2021 now stands at Rs 54,037 crore. During the week which ended on Friday, the Indian stock market scaled new highs, with the BSE Sensex crossing the 56,000 mark.

Investors turned cautious amid concerns of rising cases of Covid-19 in several countries. High oil prices also weighed on the investor sentiments, analysts said. The outflow comes after net FPI investment in June stood at Rs 17,215 crore. Post the outflow last month, the net investment into the equities segment in 2021 stands at Rs 49,036 crore.
FPIs return, invest nearly Rs 8k cr in Indian equities last week

FPIs made a net investment of Rs 7,967 crore during the week, as per NSDL data. The surge in foreign funds have also led the Indian stock market to touch new highs. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange recorded a record high of Rs 15,733.60 during the week.
FPIs turn net sellers, pull out Rs 740 cr so far in April

This is a reversal from the bullish sentiments among the foreign investors over the past one year.So far in 2020, net FPI investments into the equity market have stood at Rs 55,002 crore, with Rs 19,473 crore, Rs 25,787 crore and Rs 10,482 crore net investments in January, February and March.
