TSMC to invest record $44 bn on chip capacity expansion in 2022

In its latest earnings release, the Taiwanese firm said it expects capital spending to be between $40 and $44 billion in 2022, up from a previous record of $30 billion in 2021. According to a report in Nikkei Asia, the announcement puts "the chipmaker on track to meet its plan of investing $100 billion over the three years till 2023".
Amid chip shortage, Govt announces 76,000 crore incentive package to boost semiconductor manufacturing

The worldwide shortage of chips has enticed India to take a step further and be self-reliant. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved  a Rs 76,000-crore incentive package to boost semiconductor and display fab manufacturing in the country. The move comes at a time when there is worldwide shortages in the supply of the critical semiconductor componen that has hit industrial production across automobiles, electronics and other technology-led sectors.
India saw shipment of 11.2 mn wearable units in Q2

According to the International Data Corporation's (IDC) India Monthly Wearable Device Tracker, watches continued to be the fastest-growing category accounting for 81.2 per cent share in the wristwear category that includes watches and wristbands, up from 35 per cent a year ago. The earwear category also maintained its momentum, doubling its shipments in 2Q21 and remains the largest category in wearables.
LG bets on home appliance, TV sales after strong Q2 results

The South Korean tech giant said its operating profit spiked 65.5 percent to 1.11 trillion won ($968 million) in the April-June period, its best second-quarter performance since 2009. Sales jumped 48.4 percent on-year to 17.1 trillion won over the cited period, its largest ever for any second quarter. The figures were in line with its earnings guidance announced earlier this month.
Govt extends PLI for large-scale electronics manufacturing till FY26

The participating companies will get the option of choosing any five years for meeting their production targets under the scheme. Further, investments made in 2020-21 will continue to be covered. The scheme provides incentive of 6 per cent to 4 per cent on incremental sales of goods under target segments that are manufactured in India, for a period of five years.
Hisense to set up TV manufacturing unit in India

The company said that it will set up a local manufacturing plant with a capacity to produce two million TVs within the next two years. "Hisense entered the Indian market last year and got a phenomenal response from the consumers. To meet the growing demand for our television range we are ramping up our local manufacturing capabilities and will be setting up a TV manufacturing plant of 2 million capacity within the next two years," said Rishi Tandon.
72mn households worldwide to own 8K TV by 2025: Report

According to a forecast by market researcher Strategy Analytics, sales of more than one million 8K TVs are expected in 2021 and around four million in 2022.This will represent quite a jump from a slower than expected 2020 when just under 350,000 8K TVs were sold globally.
