Purchase of indigenous air defence guns, ammo worth Rs 6K cr cleared

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), in its meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved proposals concerning capital acquisitions of various equipment for modernisation and operational needs of the armed forces amounting to approx Rs 6,000 crore.
Defence Ministry comes up with 2nd negative import list of 108 items

The second list includes 108 defence equipment which will not be imported. Earlier, the ministry had come up with a negative import list of 101 items to give impetus to self-reliance in defence manufacturing. With the new list of items banned for imports, the tally has now gone up to 209 since August last year when the embargo on defence items was announced.

The second negative import list owing the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The second list includes bigger weapon systems such as tanks and aircraft and others. "The consultations with all the stakeholders, including the industry, are over. The Department of Military Affairs is taking a final look into the list of weapon systems that would be banned for import," said the source.

The test firing in Goa completed a series of missile trials to validate its performance under extremely challenging scenarios. The Derby missile achieved direct hit on a high-speed maneuvering aerial target and the Python missiles also achieved 100 per cent hits, thereby validating their complete capability.
