India field 5 ODI debutants for first time in over 40 years

The Indians have already sealed the series by winning the first two ODIs and coach Rahul Dravid decided to experiment in the final match. While wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar have already represented India in the T20 format, batsman Rana, spin-bowling all-rounder Gowtham and left-arm seamer Sakariya are playing for India for the first time in any format.

Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Chetan Sakariya, K Gowtham and Rahul Chahar are playing their first ODI. This is only the second time India are featuring five debutants in an ODI after the inaugural ODI in 1974. The last time they fielded so many debutants was against Australia in 1980. India have already won the first two ODIs, beating Sri Lanka by seven wickets and three wickets.

The Indian pace bowler, who was representing County Select XI after the English board could not assemble a playing XI and had to ask for players from the Indian camp, was hurt on his thumb by a shot from Hanuma Vihari on the first day. The Board is yet to confirm his availability but it seems that the thumb injury may not heal in time for the Test matches.
Rishabh Pant joins Indian Test squad after recovering from Covid-19

The BCCI, on July 15, announced that both Pant and training assistant Dayanand Garani had tested positive for Covid-19. The Board said that the young wicketkeeper was already into his eighth day of isolation at the time of announcement. Pant, who has now returned negative test results, had been in isolation for two weeks since testing positive.
England clinch T20I series vs Pakistan with thrilling win

England followed up their 3-0 victory over the visitors in the One-day Internationals with a 2-1 series win on Tuesday night. The Pakistan team will now fly to the Caribbean for a limited-overs and Test tour. Chasing a target of 155 for victory, England's Chris Jordan scored the winning runs with just two balls remaining.England had squared the series with victory at Headingley on July 18.
2nd ODI: Sri Lanka score 275/9 in 50 overs against India

Opener Avishka Fernando (50 off 71 balls) and batsman Charith Asalanka (65 off 68 balls) scored half-centuries to lead the Lankans to a total with which they will look to challenge India. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (3/50) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/54) were the most successful bowlers for India. Seamer Bhuvneshwar got rid of both the half-centurions after Chahal had got the first two wickets.
Punjab lad Simi Singh plays world record knock for Ireland

The 34-year-old Singh hit 100 not out off 91 deliveries (14x4s) in Ireland's 70-run loss to South Africa. Before Singh's century, Sam Curran's 95 not out against India in Pune on March 28 this year and Chris Woakes's 95 not out against Sri Lanka in Nottingham in 2016 were the highest by a batsman in the No. 8 position.
Aaron Finch injury scare keeps Australia guessing

Finch had been managing an issue with his right knee till he twisted it while fielding in the final T20I on Saturday (IST). The 34-year-old had to briefly leave the ground. Finch appeared in discomfort in a chase of 200, especially when running between the wickets for a second a run on an overthrow. Australia lost the final T20I by 16 runs and lost the series 1-4.

The all-rounder now has 274 wickets at 29.44, five more than second-placed Mashrafe Mortaza (269 at 32.65). Liton Das set up the win for Bangladesh on Friday night through a 114-ball 102 before Shakib sealed it with a five-wicket haul. Thanks to Das's workman-like century, built with the help of eight boundaries and no sixes, Bangladesh scored 276/9 in 50 overs.
