India records 14 more UK Covid-19 strain cases, tally stands at 20

Of the 20 cases, eight have been registered at National Centre for Disease Control in Delhi, 7 at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences in Bangalore, two at Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad. One each has been logged at National Institute of Biomedical Genomics near Kolkata, National Institute of Virology in Pune and CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi.
No flight from United Kingdom to land in India till 7 January

Initial decision on suspension was till December 31. However, in the wake of samples increasing for the variant strain, a new decision was taken. "Decision has been taken to extend the temporary suspension of flights to & from the UK till 7 January 2021," Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a tweet on Wednesday.
Covid-19 Update: India reports less than 20,000 new cases

Till now, 9,83,4141 have recovered. Currently, there are 2,62,272 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 95.99 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.45 as per cent. Covid-19 has hit men harder than women in India, where 70 per cent of the approximately 1.47 lakh people who died since the national outbreak in January were male, the ministry has announced.
India at point where we can expect vaccine in few days: Government

Addressing a press conference, Dr V.K. Paul, Member (Health), Niti Aayog said: "We are that point where we can expect vaccine in few days. We have to move forward with optimism. We expect that coming days will be better." India currently has eight Covid-19 vaccine candidates, including three indigenous vaccines, under different stages of clinical trials which could be ready for authorisation in near future.
Dry run for Covid-19 vax conducted successfully in 4 states

The end-to-end dry run was conducted in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, Rajkot and Gandhinagar districts in Gujarat, Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar in Punjab and Sonitpur and Nalbari districts in Assam on December 28 and 29.
United Kingdom returnees in Rajasthan difficult to track due to wrong contact details

Many of the visitors' addresses and phone numbers furnished in their contact details are wrong. Official orders may be put in to ascertain that those hiding their contact details shall be penalised, said health officials.
After 5 months, Delhi reports lowest tally of new Covid-19 cases

Meanwhile, the deaths due to Covid also saw a significant drop with only 21 fatalities in the same duration, the Delhi government's health bulletin said. Meanwhile, 959 patients recovered from the disease and 57,463 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the bulletin showed.
6 UK returnees' samples carry mutant Covid-19 variant

Over the last few weeks, the UK has faced a rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in South East England, leading to enhanced epidemiological and virological investigations. Analysis of viral genome sequence data identified that a large proportion of cases belonged to a new single phylogenetic cluster.
62 UK returnees untraceable, but needn't panic: Odisha official

However, there is no need to panic as these 62 UK returnees have completed their quarantine period, Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra said. He said that a total of 181 persons had returned from the UK to Odisha between November 30 and December 21. Among them, 119 persons underwent Covid-19 test, and six tested positive for the virus.
Parliamentary panel discusses Covid's global response
