The gold, silver, and bronze medals are being made in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter and have been designed by three students from the School of Jewellery in Birmingham. The three students -- Amber Alys, Francesca Wilcox and Catarina Rodrigues Caeiro have also designed the ribbons and boxes that will be awarded to the winners along with the medal. The medal and ribbon have been designed with all athletes competing in the 19 sports and eight Para sports in mind.

India defeated hosts England 3-2 in extra time to win the gold medal -- coming back to score the winner in the final moments of extra time. The two teams are on the path to collision in Birmingham too as they are in the same Pool A with Canada, Wales and Ghana as the other teams and will face off in their preliminary round match on August 2. Winning that match and topping the group could be crucial so as to avoid strong Australia in the semifinals.

India, who emerged as the most successful team in Gold Coast with six medals -- the same as England who had a silver medal less, are the defending champion in the Mixed Team competition having won the title four years back in Gold Coast ahead of Malaysia. They have in their ranks stars like former World No 1 and ex-World Champion PV Sindhu, the two-time Olympic medallist, Kidambi Srikanth, silver medallist in the World Championship in December 2021.
