The Maharashtra Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested Rane for his 'slap' slur against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, even as agitated Shiv Sena workers protested vociferously all over the state. Rane had allegedly threatened to 'slap' Uddhav Thackeray, sparking fresh tension between the BJP and the Shiv Sena.

Simultaneously, the Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that the party stands solidly behind Rane and accused the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of 'misusing' the police to target the BJP leaders. Addressing the media, he said that the party does not endorse Rane's comment threatening to 'slap' the CM, but also would not tolerate any attempts by the MVA government to slap 'cognisable offences' against the Union Minister.

The photo, tweeted by the BJP, shows the body lying in state, draped by the Tricolour, but half of it was seen to be covered up by the party flag. The party flag was placed on Singh's body over the national flag by BJP President J.P. Nadda and state BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh. Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ghanshyam Tiwari criticised the BJP on the issue.
Ex-UP CM Kalyan Singh passes away after prolonged illness
Singh was admitted to the ICU of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) on July 4 in a critical condition. On Saturday, his condition worsened due to kidney infection. He breathed his last at 9.15 pm. Singh's body has been brought to his Mall Avenue residence where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Cabinet colleagues paid tribuites to the departed soul.
