In a letter to the affiliated units of BCCI, the Indian cricket board's secretary Jay Shah said that the domestic cricket had started off well, with the completion of 748 matches till date, however, the sudden spike in cases has forced the board to postpone its junior tournament. On Thursday, India reported 13,154 new COVID-19 cases, the number of active cases stands at 82,402.

India registered a comprehensive 113-run win over South Africa in the first Test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It was also India's first-ever Test victory at the Centurion, which is largely considered to be a fortress for South Africa. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly tests COVID-positive, admitted to hospital

According to reports, Ganguly had mild fever on Sunday (December 26), and got the positive report on Monday evening (December 27). Ganguly, who had undergone treatment for a heart condition earlier this year, was admitted to Woodlands Hospital soon after his COVID-positive report came in. Family sources were quoted as saying that the hospitalisation was a precautionary measure and there was no cause for alarm.

Rohit was named India's limited-overs captain ahead of the start of the South Africa tour earlier this month. He was also appointed vice-captain of the Test side. However, he got injured (hamstring injury) during the training session in Mumbai and was later ruled out of the Test series against Proteas.
