76th BAFTA: Edward Berger gets Best Director for 'All Quiet

After winning the honours for Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Not In The English Language, the film has now clinched the Best Director award for Edward Berger, Best Sound and Best Original Score. The film is the top contender at this year's BAFTAs as it's leading the pack with 14 nominations. Of these, the film has already won six awards.

The 'Pitch Perfect' actor stole the show on Sunday during the first BAFTA Awards to take place in-person since the organisation's groundbreaking 2020 diversity review, reports variety.com. Wilson presented the best director award at the ceremony in 2020 and brought the house down with a gag-filled speech that in one fell swoop managed to burn the UK's Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, Covid-19 and the lack of women nominated for best director.

The 83-year-old veteran Hopkins won for his role in "The Father", surprising many who had expected the late Chadwick Boseman to walk away with the honour in the category, for his role in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"."The White Tiger" also lost out in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay. The film's writer-director Ramin Bahrani was in contention in the category. The winners were Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton for "The Father".
