The issue has left players unable to play their digital PlayStation games, and reports suggest that users received suspension notices without any prior notice or explanation. A Reddit user reported a similar experience, and various social media platforms revealed numerous individuals facing the same problem.
As of the latest reports, Sony has not publicly acknowledged the issue, and their "important notices" PlayStation support page does not contain information regarding this matter. Users have expressed frustration at the lack of communication and avenues for appeal, with some reporting that customer service advised creating new accounts.
This incident comes as Sony continues to experience high demand for its gaming consoles, with the PS5 being one of the fastest-selling consoles in the history of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The company had sold 38.4 million PS5 gaming consoles as of April 2022.
