Smartphone Sales Surge 11% in India's Festive Season's First Wave, Samsung Takes the Lead

A report said on Tuesday that the smartphone sales during the first wave of the festive season sales in India between September 26 and October 6 saw an 11 percent year-over-year growth.

This was due to "top models such as Galaxy M35, Galaxy S23, Galaxy A14, and Galaxy S23 FE," the report claims.

The first leg of the festival season this year saw sales for 11 days, rather than the 7-8 days seen in the last two years.

"Samsung sales in unit terms grew 17 percent YoY in 2024's first wave compared to 2023's first wave," the report mentioned.

According to Abhilash Kumar, industry analyst, TechInsights, Samsung has registered healthy numbers during the first wave of festive season sales in the country.

"This was driven by attractive deals and price cuts on products across price bands pertaining to Galaxy A, M, and S series. Also, Samsung was the main sponsor for sales events on Flipkart and Amazon which gave it an additional push," he said.

Shipment to the Indian smartphone market rose 7.2 percent YoY to 69 million for H1 2024.

The country's second quarter, especially the later half of it, is perceived as a dry run for the important second half of the year. The festive season sale period stretches well up to November, and according to an International Data Corporation (IDC) report, it is only this time of the year that the high season sales need to be captured.
