In the second quarter of FY24, a recent report has shed light on a distinctive trend in the recruitment landscape within the IT sector. While overall recruitment appears subdued, there's been a noticeable surge in demand for professionals with functional expertise encompassing Development, ERP, Automotive Design, Testing, and Administration skills.
Quess Corp, a prominent business solutions provider, unveiled that approximately 65 percent of the total demand has originated from these specific skill sets, indicating a heightened necessity for specialized proficiencies.
Expanding beyond the traditional skill suites, the report underscores an incremental demand for talents related to Gen AI, Data Science, DevOps, Cloud, Automotive Engineering, Cybersecurity, Networking Specialists, and more during Q2.
Vijay Sivaram, CEO of Quess IT Staffing, highlighted a significant shift in the behavior of large IT services companies. "For the first time in recent history, these companies exhibit a decline in headcount and reduced guidance values, signifying a collective exercise of caution in navigating the future," he remarked. Sivaram emphasized the opportunities for those investing in upskilling, citing that over 85 percent of Indian businesses plan to invest in AI within the next two years.
Furthermore, the report underscores a noticeable rise in demand for fresh talent across sectors like Engineering, Manufacturing, Healthcare, and Retail. Early career professionals are increasingly sought after for their expertise in Data Engineering, Development (specifically in Java and Angular), ERPs, Power BI, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, and UI/UX.
The transformation of India's IT sector is evident as it extends beyond Bengaluru, the traditional tech hub. Cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi NCR are emerging as new tech hotspots, driven by robust tech industries and the presence of both domestic and international companies. These cities are swiftly becoming established and mature technology hubs within India.
In terms of job postings, technology hiring trends in India showcase concentration in specific cities. The top five cities, including Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR, collectively account for over 79 percent of all job postings, signifying a concentration of tech opportunities in these regions.
