Media outlets NPR, PBS quit Twitter due to 'govt-funded media' labels
After NPR, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) also left Twitter after being labelled as government-backed media.NPR said it will no longer post fresh content to its 52 official Twitter feeds, including the primary @NPR handle, which has nearly 9 million followers. Last week, Twitter placed a "state-affiliated media" label on NPR's account.
Over 150 AI chatbot apps launched in Q1, user spending up 4,000%
According to analytics firm Apptopia, just this year (through March), 158 such apps have arrived on the app stores. Downloads of AI chatbot apps increased 1,506 per cent, and in-app purchase (IAP) revenue surged 4,184 per cent, year-over-year, in the first quarter. "The public launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT product has created a consumer-facing artificial intelligence gold rush, including in the realm of mobile apps," said Adam Blacker, VP, Insights at Apptopia.
S.Korea top court orders Google to disclose shared personal data
In 2014, four South Korean activists filed a lawsuit against the global tech giant and its local affiliate, Google Korea, demanding to know whether their personal information had been shared with a third party. Under South Korean law, online service providers must respond to a customer's request to disclose any record of their personal data being shared with a third party, reports Yonhap news agency.
Google TV adds over 800 free channels in 10 languages, including Hindi
"We're integrating access to free channels from Tubi, Plex and Haystack News directly into the Live tab, alongside the existing lineup of channels from Pluto TV. We're also launching free built-in channels from Google TV that you can watch without even downloading or launching an app. In total, you can now browse over 800 channels and premium programming, including news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX," Google said in a blogpost.

According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, Google said it was dropping the Covid-19 vaccination mandate that the company implemented in December 2021, effective immediately. In a memo to employees, the Sundar Pichai-run tech giant cited the "extraordinary time" that has passed since the onset of the Covid pandemic.

Global IT spending continues to decline for 5th consecutive month
In its new monthly forecast for worldwide IT spending growth, IDC projected overall growth this year slightly down from 4.5 per cent in the earlier forecast and represents a swing from a 6 per cent growth forecast in October 2022. "Since the fourth quarter of last year, we have seen clear and measurable signs of a moderate pullback in some areas of IT spending," said Stephen Minton, vice president in IDC's Data and Analytics research group.
