MoS IT Clarifies: Focusing on Real-Life Use Cases, Not Directly Competing with Musk or Altman in AI

Addressing the Global Technology Summit organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and Carnegie India, Minister Chandrasekhar highlighted the government's efforts in formulating a comprehensive AI strategy, collaborating with various nations to establish guidelines for the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.

Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, emphasized on Wednesday that India's focus in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) is not centered around competing with figures like Sam Altman of OpenAI or Elon Musk of xAI. Instead, the country aims to harness AI to create impactful use cases that improve the lives of its citizens and mitigate potential harm to users.

Addressing the Global Technology Summit organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and Carnegie India, Minister Chandrasekhar highlighted the government's efforts in formulating a comprehensive AI strategy, collaborating with various nations to establish guidelines for the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.

"Our goal is not to compete with Sam Altman or Elon Musk or win the next Nobel Prize, but to transform the lives of people with use cases. AI will be used to build capabilities in real-life use cases," stated the minister during the event.

Chandrasekhar underscored the significant role that AI is expected to play in various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, security, language translation, and promoting inclusivity.

He noted that the global community is aligning with India's commitment to ensuring the safety and trustworthiness of AI technologies. The minister announced plans for a global summit on India AI scheduled for January 2024, with a particular focus on AI-related talent, computing infrastructure, chips, large language models, and foundational models.

Chandrasekhar concluded by emphasizing that AI stands as one of the most impactful inventions in recent times, capable of transforming sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, governance, language translation, and inclusion.
