iOS 15: Top 15 new features of Apple’s latest iPhone operating system

Apple on Monday launched its updated version of the operating system for iPhone, the iOS 15. The software was launched along with the new iPhone 13 and it offers a variety of updates. 1. The new iOS 15 introduces Spatial Audio for FaceTime to make it sound more "natural and comfortable".

2. This microphone mode brings every single sound into your call. It’s ideal for when you’re taking music lessons or want your friend to hear everything that’s happening in the space you’re in.

3. With a new grid view, users will also be able to see more faces simultaneously during Group FaceTime.

4. Apple has also introduced 'SharePlay' for FaceTime that will allow users to listen to songs on Apple Music, watch movies and shows together.

5. iOS 15 also comes with a new 'Focus' feature to tweak what you want to pay attention to.

6. The new iOS 15 gives a new look to notifications. Profile icons on notifications are now bigger. A new 'Notification Summary' will give a summary of all "non-time-critical" notifications at the chosen time of the day.

7. The Weather app has also been redesigned. It is now packed with a lot more information, such as precipitation maps, next-hour precipitation notifications and a new UV index. It has become a solid alternative to third-party weather apps.

8. Messages is now better integrated with other Apple apps. Whenever someone sends you an article, a photo album, a podcast or a song, you’ll see those recommendations in Apple’s other apps — Apple News, Photos, Apple Podcasts, Apple Music, etc.

9. The Wallet app adds support for new key types in iOS 15, such as homes, offices, or hotel rooms. Later this year, customers in participating U.S. states will be able to add a driver's license or state ID to the Wallet app.

10. Live Text is a new feature that uses on-device intelligence to recognize text in a photo that users can search for, highlight, and copy. Spotlight can now search for photos by location, people, scenes, objects, and text.

11. Spotlight also offers web image search and richer results for actors, musicians, TV shows, and movies. Enhanced results for contacts show recent conversations, shared photos, and location if it is shared through Find My iPhone.

12. iOS 15 also introduces new privacy measures, such as processing Siri requests directly on the iPhone, which has the added benefit of better responsiveness, Mail Privacy Protection to stop senders knowing if an email has been opened and detecting a recipient's IP address, and an App Privacy Report view to show how often apps use the permissions they have been granted.

13. Apple is introducing bilingual dictionaries for India. These include Urdu–English, Tamil–English, Telugu–English and Gujarati–English.

14. Apple has completely redesigned the Safari browser — something hasn’t gone down too well with a few beta testers. Apple has added a new tab bar that is at the bottom of the screen, this was earlier on top of the screen. In addition to this, Safari gets customisable start pages and web extensions.

15. Apple Maps gets an upgrade with more elevation data, road colours and driving directions, rich labels, 3D landmarks and improved night mode.
