Elon Musk Reports Surge in Likes on X Following Privacy Update

The billionaire had put likes to be private by default so as to save the users from probable backlash from trolls and to enhance the privacy of the users.

Elon Musk said on Thursday that after making likes private on his social media platform X, posting reached a massive increase in the number of likes from users all over the world.

The billionaire had put likes to be private by default so as to save the users from probable backlash from trolls and to enhance the privacy of the users.

In a recent post on X, Musk said that there even has been a "massive increase in likes after they were made private."

As part of this update, users of X also stopped seeing the posts that others liked.

The update does not seem to affect looking at one's own liked posts, and the original poster is still able to look at who has liked their content.

This is a necessary step, according to Musk, CEO of Tesla - NASDAQ: TSLA - and SpaceX, for people to like posts without retribution.

From the corner of the platform, it now says that likes could only be visible to users and the author of the post.

"Author gets notified but no one else. Bookmark is just for you. We could even make that customizable for users," the company said.
