Tech mogul Elon Musk has teased that he may build his own X phone, in collaboration with Samsung, to challenge the recent integration of Apple devices by OpenAI. Taking to Twitter to respond to the rumors that an X phone would have Samsung parts, Musk admitted that the possibility does exist but that such a move is not precluded.
Expressing skepticism around the basis on OpenAI for AI capabilities and questioning the commitment of Apple to user privacy, Musk criticized the fact that Apple brought ChatGPT into its products. Musk argued that the fact OpenAI is not under Apple's control would provide a significant security risk to users' privacy.
Musk tweeted on X that should Apple embbed OpenAI at OS level, "Apple devices will be banned at my companies".
"That is an unacceptable security violation," Musk added. As of now, the claims of Musk are unanswered by Apple.
Earlier in the day, Musk threatened to ban the use of iPhones within his companies following the news that Apple had integrated ChatGPT technology into its devices. Earlier in the day, Apple had announced the integration of OpenAI ChatGPT technology into its update of iOS 18 that could answer any query from a user using the technology.
Recently, Musk reiterated somewhere on some social media platform that if Apple integrated OpenAI at the OS level, he would ensure Apple products were unavailable in his companies. In fact, he said it made the security systems degraded and thus unacceptable.
This brings to light the ever-debated issue of whether AI integration in consumer technology will compromise user privacy.
