Amidst these recent layoffs, in an astonishing move, Tesla has also asked its charging team to disband, adding to the unexpectedness.
Tesla had formed alliances with Ford and General Motors by fitting its connectors in the vehicles, but Tesla had dispersed its Supercharger network team. The Supercharger network supports the North American Charging Standard (NACS) technology, which has started gaining traction among the major car manufacturing companies.
In an internal e-mail to top-ranking officials of Tesla, Musk instructed the cutting of the remaining employees who do not meet the criteria of excellence, necessity, and trustworthiness or else, they should quit.
One of the impacted charging staffers, Will Jameson, wrote on X that he has let "our entire charging org go."
"What this means for the charging network, NACS, and all the exciting work we were doing across the industry, I don't yet know. What a wild ride it has been," he posted on X.
Be that as it may, Tesla will push through with the construction of new Supercharger sites deemed of "critical" importance and will complete the ones already in progress, as Musk has declared in his email forwarded to TechCrunch.
These fresh job cuts come after Tesla's previous reorganization move, which resulted in the dismissal of over 10 percent of its workers around the globe.
Musk has also dismissed Tesla's public policy team, which is another demonstration of a more streamlined operation within the company.
