This project is an important move towards India's objective of attaining self-reliance in technology and manufacturing, promoting more locally designed, developed, and manufactured products.

The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, under which financial incentives are given to firms making domestic manufacturing investments, has been a major growth driver in the electronics segment.

The government last month announced that the PLI 2.0 for IT hardware scheme had already resulted in Rs 10,000 crore worth of production and the generation of 3,900 jobs in just 18 months since its launch.

India's domestic electronics production has grown vastly over the last ten years with the overall output growing from Rs 2.4 lakh crore in 2014 to Rs 9.8 lakh crore in 2024.
