Apple’s Foldable iPhone Set for 2026 Launch, Will Feature iPhone 17 Air Technologies, Says Mark Gurman

As reported by Engadget's Steve Dent, Apple is working on launching its first foldable iPhone in 2026.

Apple's long-awaited foldable iPhone has been the subject of rumors for a while now, and fresh reports are lending credence to the rumors. As reported by Engadget's Steve Dent, Apple is working on launching its first foldable iPhone in 2026.

The company is said to model this new device by closely following the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold lineup, which indicates that it will have a book-style foldable instead of the more compact clamshell style used in other foldable smartphones.

Gurman, in his Power On weekly newsletter, uncovered that Apple's foldable will be constructed based on the technologies of the future iPhone 17 Air (Slim). The latter is projected to be one of the thinnest phones to date with a 5.5mm thick body, not counting the camera bar. If Apple can keep this lean profile for its foldable phone but equal the technical specs of other companies, it may put Apple in a unique position of having a large share of the foldable market.

The foldable iPhone is expected to have a starting price of about $2,300 (around Rs. 1,99,000). Due to the high price, Apple is expected to keep the availability of this phone low.

The foldable is rumored to have a liquid metal hinge, a 7.8-inch inner screen, and a 5.5-inch cover screen. The phone could also have a side-mounted Touch ID sensor for protection.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the foldable iPhone is reported to be 9.2mm thick when folded and a mere 4.6mm when unfolded. The phone is said to employ an aluminium alloy middle frame, and it may have a dual rear camera setup along with a battery of approximately 5,000mAh.
