Tech giant Apple launched a children's smartwatch Wednesday in India with easy-to-use calling, texting, and activity tracking. The Apple Watch for kids, according to the company, works without an iPhone.
The watch purports to provide a solution for parents who prefer not to give their children a mobile phone.
This is available in India on a cellular model of the Apple Watch Series 4 or newer, or the Apple Watch SE. Available with iPhone 8 or later with recent versions of watchOS and iOS.
This watch brings Apple Watch communication, health, fitness, and safety features to younger users and other family members who do not have an iPhone. Easy setup is done on a parent's iPhone so that kids can make and receive calls and send and receive messages.
A parent can locate their child using the watch, and all their personal information is fully encrypted. They could also, in advance, approve contacts with whom it is safe for the children to use the Watch's communications capabilities.
Apart from the kids, all other family members can have access to essential health and safety features like Emergency SOS. Other functionalities, such as Maps, Siri, Alarms, and the App Store, make them more independent without needing an iPhone.
Kids have their own phone number with a separate cellular plan and can have their own Apple ID. One needs a wireless service plan for cellular connectivity, which is available through Jio in India.
It has a calendar feature that allows the child to track their daily schedule and activities involving the family. It also organizes tasks with Reminders, and they can view photo albums that have been synced from a guardian's iPhone. Besides, they are able to download third-party apps straight to the watch from the App Store; parental control over app availability is included.
